THE PLAY PROJECT FAMILY RETREATS & DAY CAMPS
The Play Project offers customised family retreats and day camps that specialise in supporting children with developmental difficulties. Our retreats and camps are based in Yarrawonga and Harrietville over 3-5 days. Where possible we run our retreats during Victorian and NSW school holidays. However, at times due to the availability of the facilities we use, we offer weekend based packages.
Our Harrietville Retreat
This retreat runs in April, June and October, see dates in the information pack attached
Join us for a family retreat at the base of Mount Hotham. We promote wellness from the inside out by providing a nourishing environment surrounded by nature. Parents can take the time each day to revive themselves with peace of mind that their children are having a fun and therapeutic experience becoming the best version of themselves. Our nature based program and whole foods menu provides the foundation for developing healthy habits and supporting children to reach their potential. In the evenings we come together for structured play, family meal times and a campfire singalong
Our Yarrawonga Camp
This day camp runs in the January school holidays from 9-3 each day and involves lots of active outdoor and water based play. Participants will enjoy social and community based activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, water skiing, Aquazone (for those aged 7 +), waterslides as well as ninja warrior courses, yoga, hut building and much more. We try to keep our costs/fees to a minimum to ensure both funded and non funded children can participate. Hence, we ask you to please contact us for a customised quote. For families who are travelling from out of town we can discuss bus/transport services or accommodation options. Sibling welcome, extra fees may apply.
Our retreats are great for children of all ages and abilities (including those with special needs). Our groups sizes are small which allows us to tailor the experience to the individual needs of the child.
Our retreats mix outdoor nature play with adventure and more structured activities to support holistic development while nurturing the health and wellbeing of the individual.
Our experienced team of Occupational Therapists and Outdoor Education Teachers are experts in child development and have tailored the retreat program to ensure it provides an intensive therapeutic experience in a fun and play based setting.
Key skills developed during the retreat/camp include:
- Motor Skills
- Self regulation (managing emotions)
- Social skill development
- Independent living skills
Our Occupational Therapist designed and sensory based approach to play allows us to incorporate proven therapeutic strategies with developmentally appropriate play to ensure each child reaches their full physical, social and emotional potential.
This makes the retreats/camps a great option for families seeking an intensive therapy experience for children with additional needs or an alternative to traditional respite services. A great option for NDIS funded families looking for a structured holiday that provides respite for parents along with therapeutic, fun, play based activities for children. Siblings Welcome.
During the day Parents can enjoy some much needed free time on the Murray River or in the beautiful high country and/or take part in our individualised wellness program (Harrietville only). All wellness activities are included in the retreat fees and include: massage, Nutrition support, cooking classes and group exercise.
