The Therapy at Home Ready for School Program focuses on building functional skills for learning from the inside out.

Children can develop a strong and stable foundation to support them on their learning journey. The program works sequentially through five different modules of skill development:

  1. Gross motor skills
  2. Core strength, vestibular system and proprioception
  3. Language, communication and emotional regulation skills
  4. Hand and shoulder strength
  5. Fine motor skills

Within each module, there are four different levels of play-based activities and games that children can engage with. They can build confidence and independence before moving on and developing their skills further. The focus is on keeping it fun so that children are motivated to keep practising and making progress with these skills. You will be guided to progressively lay the foundations for learning.

Although handwriting is a fundamental aspect of a child’s learning journey, being ‘ready for school’ actually encompasses a much broader range of skills that need to be developed prior to even picking up a pencil.

Gross motor skills are required to support the development of core strength, which is essential for assisting children in remaining seated and upright during table top tasks.

Children will require language skills to express themselves at school and develop strategies for emotional regulation that can be honed over time.

Finally, hand and shoulder strength will be targeted as a foundation for supporting the fine motor skills required to engage in activities such as cutting and handwriting. This program provides a fun, engaging and practical way of building a well-rounded set of ready for school skills.

If your child has already started school, this program can still provide many positive benefits for supporting them in this journey, particularly if you have noticed that they require further support in any of these areas of skill development.

PLEASE NOTE: The essential components of the toolbox generally don’t change over time unless we are making improvements to the overall program. The specific tools included may differ at times in terms of brand, colour, and other cosmetic differences due to sourcing factors out of our control. This will not affect the therapeutic benefits of the program as intended for the participant. We recommend you only order one program per child to ensure the appropriate use of funds. We cannot tailor toolboxes or programs to suit specific requests at this time. If you order a program for multiple children they will receive the same program and toolbox.
