The Therapy at Home Handwriting Foundations Program focuses on moving your child through four different levels of skill development in the areas of core strength, upper body strength, hand strength and fine motor and handwriting skills. In doing so, your child will progressively build the foundational motor skills required to support a good pencil grip and to effectively participate in handwriting tasks.

This is the first program in our developmental trilogy for handwriting skills so if you’re already past the point where you’re ready for functional writing of sentences, you might want to take a look at the next programs in the series:

For further details on the Handwriting Program series please visit the Handwriting Trilogy webpage.

Using the improvement tracker, you will be able to monitor your child’s progress and motivate them to engage with the exercises provided. To maintain engagement, the program has incorporated a variety of play-based activities to develop skills in these areas and a toolbox complete with adaptive equipment and resources to excite, delight and inspire your child as they lay the foundations for handwriting.

  • The ideal age range to achieve the therapeutic outcomes for this program is 4 - 9 years old. If your child does not fit this criteria, please contact us to discuss other options that may be better suited to their needs and goals.
  • This program is intended to be intensive, which means a daily commitment of 20 minutes to achieve the significant outcomes we want to see for your child. If you have a school attending child it is recommended that this program be undertaken in school holidays as part of your daily routine, or if they have a support person at school that provides individualised activities, this would be suitable also. Attempting this program on top of daily school commitments is not recommended. If your child has a more free and flexible lifestyle, then this program can slot in daily without overwhelm. Also note this is quite a physical program, initially focussing on the development of physical strength and endurance as the foundation for development in this area.
PLEASE NOTE: The essential components of the toolbox generally don’t change over time unless we are making improvements to the overall program. The specific tools included may differ at times in terms of brand, colour, and other cosmetic differences due to sourcing factors out of our control. This will not affect the therapeutic benefits of the program as intended for the participant. We recommend you only order one program per child to ensure the appropriate use of funds. We cannot tailor toolboxes or programs to suit specific requests at this time. If you order a program for multiple children they will receive the same program and toolbox. All shop listing images are representative of the program theme and not necessarily literal representations of what’s in the toolbox.
