Have you, or someone you know recently left school? Our Skills Development Program provides opportunities for participants to develop their executive functioning skills and increase independence to promote employability.

The goal of the Skills Development Program is to make it easier for participants to learn and develop the skills necessary to take care of themselves and find meaningful paid or volunteer work in the future.Read on to learn about the most recent group of young people to participate in this program.

Participants have had the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas. They have spent time at Bunnings, The Cook & Co and at a Farm doing work including; maintenance, feeding animals and cleaning up the area. These real-life work experiences have enabled them to have a better understanding of what it is like in the workforce. The participants also work alongside our trained professionals to create important documents and accounts including; email account, USI’s and resumes.

Our participants enjoy a nutritious diet during the day, and have the opportunity to cook lunch and practice their skills with the Thermomix and other cooking devices which enable them to increase their independence.

The participants work on their independence through performing basic domestic tasks including cleaning up, vacuuming, washing, mopping and cleaning all rooms (bathroom, toilet, kitchen etc.).

Other aspects of a day at the Skills Development Program include a strength and conditioning program to develop core muscle strength and endurance as well as a mindfulness program to support attention and concentration.

The program is offered each term during school times, and runs from 9am – 3pm each weekday. Each participant can choose the amount of days they spend at the program.
